First Principles

What does it mean to reflect? What is reflection itself? A process, a product, or both? Is it the same as metacognition, or is it something else, perhaps related but not identical? Is it a process that can be scaffolded, as several of the adjacent images suggest? What do we in the academy hope to gain by incorporating reflection, and is there any evidence that we are successful? What's your take? Can you tell us about this in the context of your own experience with reflection?
